Saying Goodbye: Fashion Obituaries


Rest in peace: Former Vogue editor in chief Francine Crescent, who passed at age 75. Crescent headed up French Vogue’s fashion pages from 1961 to 1984, and was a helpful figure in launching the careers of Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin, with whom she collaborated on numerous occasions.

Rest in peace: Founder of Ross Stores Inc. Stuart G. Moldaw, who passed at age 81, due to a brief illness. Moldaw established the Ross Dress for Less discount chain in early 1980’s. Ross Stores is now the nation’s second-largest off-price retailer, with more than 900 locations in 27 states.

Rest in peace: Seven7 Jeans Designers Miguel Rocha and Lisa Santee, both so young at age 25. Both were killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident outside company headquarters in Vernon, Calif.

Rest in peace: Yves Saint Laurent passed away at age 71. Brain cancer was given as the cause of death. The legendary couturier passed away in the presence of Berge and longtime friend and muse Betty Catroux. Catherine Deneuve arrived shortly after he died, at 11:10 p.m. Paris time, Berge noted.
